Live Scan & Fingerprinting

Electronic background submissions to the California DOJ and FBI, and ink cards for applications that require them. By appointment.

Live Scan

Electronic Fingerprint Submission

The standard method for background checks required by California employers, licensing boards and volunteer organizations.

Fingerprints are captured on a certified scanner and transmitted to the California Department of Justice, which runs the state criminal history check and forwards the submission to the FBI where a federal check is required. Results go directly to the agency named on your request form.

Because capture is digital, a poor-quality roll is rejected at the time of capture rather than weeks later — the most common cause of a failed ink submission.

Bring these two things

  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • Completed Request for Live Scan Service form (BCIA 8016)

The requesting agency supplies the form. It contains the ORI and billing codes that route your results.

Applications

Who Needs Live Scan

Security guard registration

Required for every California guard card application. Same-day printing available when you train with us.

Professional licensing

Nursing, real estate, contracting, insurance, childcare and other state board applications.

Employment screening

Healthcare, education, transportation, finance and public agency positions.

Volunteer and school clearance

Coaching, classroom volunteering, youth programs, foster and adoption clearances.

Federal applications

Federal filings that require inked FD-258 cards rather than an electronic submission.

Out-of-state requests

Agencies outside California generally cannot receive a California Live Scan transmission and require ink cards.

Results Go to the Requesting Agency

Delta captures and transmits fingerprints. We do not receive, store or review criminal history results — those are sent from the Department of Justice directly to the agency named on your form. To obtain a copy of your own record, use the California DOJ record review process.
